Puyol lifts the Super Cup again

Carles Puyol lifted the Spanish Super Cup aloft in Camp Nou on Sunday evening after FC Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao and he wants even more silverware to add to his collection.

The Blaugrana captain added to the trophies that he won last season and those that were garnered under Frank Rijkaard and he believes that winning things only motivates him and the team on to try and guide the club to more glory.

Staying put

"I feel important here and my plan is to stay," he explained when asked about his position at Barça. Puyol stated that he understood the club were looking to reinforce the defence after the injuries sufferd last term as well as looking to promote from within where possible.

Six trophies

With the Super Cup already won, Barça now have five more trophies to aim for an Puyol is excited: "It is great and we want to achieve more for the fans," he said. "The team is like last season, but not just on the pitch, but on a daily basis too.

"Now we have to go step-by-step. Very few teams have done the treble, so you can imagine how hard it would be to win six. But the idea is to win every game from now until the end of the season."
