Manchester City’s visit for the Joan Gamper Trophy will be the sixth meeting between the two sides – every time Barça have met the English side it has been for a friendly.

Barça and Manchester City may two historic European clubs, but they have never met in an official game. But in friendly encounters between the Culers and the Citizens, the Catalans have won three times,, the Mancunians once, and one game ended even.

Plenty of history

The first meeting between Barça and Manchester City dates back to 1952 and the old Les Corts ground. The famous ‘Five Cups’ team, boosted by a Kubala hat trick, cruised to a win. The most significant duel was in 1974, in commemoration of BCB’s 75th anniversary. They also met in 2003, in one of the first games of the Rijkaard era.
