Valdés, until 2014


27 year old Víctor Valdés has extended his contract with Barça until June 30, 2014. The termination clause has been set at 150 million euros.

Shortly after 12.00 midday, Victor Valdés signed an extension to his contract with FC Barcelona. As well as president Joan Laporta, Valdés, was also joined for the event by his father and agent, as well as vice presidents Joan Boix and Rafael Yuste. The deal links him to the club until June 30, 2014. His previous contract was until June 30, 2010. The termination clause has been set at 150 million euros.

valdes2014_www.fcbarcelona.cat_x3x.jpgAfter seeing Víctor Valdés sign his extended contract, Joan Laporta spoke to Barça TV and www.fcbarcelona.cat. “It is a great day for Barça” he said, before going on to explain just how important a member of the team the first choice goalkeeper is.

Justified effort

“It was very important for us to renew the deal with our first team goalkeeper. He has always been a reference for the team and has contrinuted a liot to the successes of recent years. This has added stability to the team” said Laporta. He also commented that the club has made a special effort to settle the right terms because “Víctor deserves everything, Barça has made the kind of effort that corresponds to a player of his level”.

An example for young players

Finally, Joan Laporta, who believes Víctor Valdés is “the best keeper in the world”, pointed out the importance of the player being a product of the club’s own youth system. Thinking of other future prospects, he commented that” Víctor is a mirror in which all youth players should see themselves reflected. For the club identity and model it is essential for us to have players like him”.

Touré was first
The first player to extend his contract this summer was Touré Yaya , who has signed until 2012 with a termination clause of 100 million euros. So, both Touré Yaya and Víctor Valdés have been rewarded for such great performances with FCB.
