Best League Record in Europe

Jesús Carrillo

FC Barcelona have produced the best stats of all the winners of Europe’s major leagues, with the most points, the most victories, the fewest matches lost and the best goal difference.

The champions in England, Germany, Italy and France finished the season well behind Barca’s impressive figures. Chelsea won the Premiership with 86 points, Bayern needed just 70, Inter did it in Serie A with 82 while Olympique Marseille lifted the French title with 78.

31 victories

2010-02-05_PARTIDO_35.JPGHere in Spain the league title was a two-horse race with Barca and Real Madrid fighting it out to the very last match. They both notched up 31 wins, while treble-winning Inter won just 24 league matches, Bayern 20 (although the Bundesliga has just 18 teams, 2 fewer than in La Liga) and Chelsea secured 27.

Goals conceded and goal difference

Defensively, Barca also came out on top, conceding a miserly 24 goals in 38 league matches. In comparison, Inter conceded 34, Chelsea 32, Bayern 31 and Olympique Marseille 36.

Barca is also the clear winner in terms of goal difference, finishing the league season with +74. Chelsea came closest with +71.

Defeats (Yes, there was one!)
Barca completed their perfect set of records by losing just one league match. The Dutch champions, Twente, and Portuguese champions Benfica came closest and lost one more.
