Afáyate, ‘Guaje’

David Villa has arrived in Barcelona and posed for photographs in front of the club crest. On Friday morning, the Asturian will go through the motions of becoming a new FC Barcelona player.

He’s here. Welcome, Guaje, as they say in the Bable, the Asturian language. After Valencia and FC Barcelona settled terms for the transfer of David Villa, the striker touched down in the Catalan capital at 6.00 this Thursday evening. He first went to get some rest in his hotel, and then signed autographs and posed for media photographs beside the club crest, as is the tradition with all new arrivals at the club.

Proud to join Barça

2010-05-20_LLEGADA_VILLA_20.JPGVilla’s arrival has raised huge expectations in the media. A mass of reporters gathered around the doors to the club offices to receive the new signing. Then, at 19.03, Villa emerged to be photographed in front of the club crest, and a large number of fans also came along to give him a hearty welcome. He then gave his first interview in Barcelona to Barça TV. Villa said he was “very proud to sign for the best team in the world”, and hoped it “is not hard to adapt”.

Busy Friday

2010-05-20_LLEGADA_VILLA_01.JPGVilla will have plenty to do tomorrow morning. At 10.30 on May 21 he will have a medical check-up, and assuming there are no problems, by 12.30 he will be ready to sign his contract binding him to the club for the next four seasons with the option to one other. An hour later he will be officially presented in Sala París.

The most long awaited moment for Barça fans will happen immediately after. David Villa will be posing for pictures in the team shirt on the Camp Nou turf, and the photo session will be open to the general public.
