Iniesta: “I want to be there”

Jordi Clos

Andrés Iniesta has said he wants to play against Valladolid, but understands the logic if he isn’t picked. “The most important thing is that we’re depending on ourselves” he said.

Two days before the crunch game with Valladolid, Andrés Iniesta has spoken to the press about his recovery from injury. “I have been working with the team for a few days, doing all the training and I have a great personal feeling. Today’s session went well, let’s see what happens tomorrow and then we’ll decide. I hope there are no problems and I can be there … but to be sincere and logical, I think it’s unlikely I’ll start. I have all the desire and enthusiasm, but my team-mates are playing very well”.

An injury to think about

2010-05-14_ENTRENO_06.JPGIniesta has not enjoyed this last month on the sidelines. “It is tough not to be playing. I missed the last bit, the most decisive bit and the nicest bit. You suffer and it’s not nice not to be able to help the team. It would be important to play the last game because I started the season with an injury and wouldn’t want to end it the same way … personally, it’s been a tough season … this injury was hard to accept and has given me something to think about in the future”.

90 minutes from glory

But whatever happens to him personally, “the important thing is to win the league … it is hard to regain the title. To do it on the final day, with so many points, would be spectacular … I can’t wait for the game and the chance to celebrate another title. We have all the motivation in the world for this one … we all know that we are just 90 minutes away from the title. The fans always respond and we will need them”.

Barça in control

We both have a lot to play for.” Both Valladolid, and also Malaga, who face Madrid, are involved in the battle against relegation. “There are a lot of decisive games and for the teams facing the drop this is their last chance.” So, it won’t be the easiest of situations. “I don’t know what kind of approach Clemente will take, perhaps a draw will be enough for them. What I do know is that when the team clicks and the fans are behind us, then we have nothing to worry about … The most important thing is that we are depending on ourselves. You can’t put a price on that”.

Cesc, would be “a step up in quality”
Andrés Iniesta also spoke about what Cesc Fabregas has said, in that he is sure that if one day he leaves Arsenal then he’d love to move to Barça. Iniesta described the potential arrival of his international team-mate as “a major step up in quality. He is the captain at Arsenal, what else do I have to say?”
