Solid since the Calderón

Edgar Fornós

Since FC Barcelona slipped at the Vicente Calderón and lost 2-1, nobody else has beaten them in La Liga. That was their only defeat in the competition, and was followed by 13 wins and 2 draws.

Barça have more than made amends for the loss to Atletico Madrid. Forlán and Simao scored the goals that beat the Catalans 2-1, but they are unbeaten since.

The day it all went wrong

2010-02-14_PAR_23.JPGBarça were missing several players, and things got off to a sad start when Keita hobbled off injured when the game had barely started. FCB have never enjoyed visits to the Calderón, and Forlán set the pace with an 8th minute goal. Portugal’s Simao Sabrosa made it two in the 22th, but four minutes later Ibrahimovic got the visitors back in it. But it didn’t turn out to be enough.

No more defeats

Barça have made up for that unfortunate trip to Madrid by taking 41 of the next 45 points on offer. And at the end of the day, to reach the final day of the season with just one league defeat behind them is an extraordinary achievement for Guardiola and his remarkable team.

7 wins in a row

2010-03-14_PARTIDO_35.JPGA 3-0 win against Valencia followed a draw at the Juegos del Mediterráneo against Almeria, after home wins over Racing and Malaga. Then came the best winning streak of the season, seven on the trot, including the famous win at the Bernabéu to put Barça back on top of the league table.
Solid since the Calderón
8 out of 8 at the Camp Nou
Away from the Camp Nou, Barça have only dropped 2 points in Almeria (2-2) and another 2 at the Cornellà-El Prat against Espanyol (0-0) since that solitary league defeat at the Calderón.
