Xavi: "we want this title"

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The players were adamant that the win in Villarreal was just the first step in their final run in to the league and that they would be putting in maximum effort to ensure they took the title again.

For Gerard Piqué, if the game against Villarreal meant half the league, “the other three games are the other half”. Xavi also insisted: “we want this title – this was a big step, but there are still 9 points to play for”, something Dani Alves echoed: “we have to take it one game at a time – this league will go down to the wire”. As Valdes put it, “we have three finals ahead of us and we have to go for them all”.

Below are the players post match reactions:

Bojan:

"It means a lot when the boss shows confidence in you. I work as hard as I can so that I’m ready when the team needs me. I’m happy to have played because this was a big game for us”.

"This was a tricky trip and now we have three games to go. We have to enjoy this result and then move on”.

"They were three vital points that will give us a boost for the final three games”.

"I’m working hard as always, and my confidence is growing as I play more”.

“The squad is happy, but we know we have three more games to go”.

Valdés:

2010-05-01_PARTIDO_02.JPG"The team came back against a tough opponent and we played good football”.

"This was an important game and now we have to build on it for the next three against what could be difficult rivals”.

"It fills me with pride to see the ground full of Barca fans. There were moments when all you could hear were our fans and that’s a big help when you travel away for an important game”.

Piqué:

"We lifted ourselves with one of our best games of the season after such a hard blow”.

"We put in a great first half. We came out full of confidence and we won it”.

"We knew we had to lift ourselves up again and we did it. We saw we had to do it because we don’t want to finish the season without a title and we showed we are still at the top”.

"We have to try and not slip up, because the league is ours for the taking. We have to take it one game at a time because they are all important”.

Alves:

2010-05-01_PARTIDO_44.JPG"This was an important step forward at a tough ground”.

"We feel bad about Wednesday and the disappointment it caused to the fans, but it just wasn’t to be. The good thing about football is that it gives you the opportunity to come back”.

"The best answer we could give was out there on the pitch. That’s the club’s philosophy, whatever happens”.

"We know the league will go down to the wire and that we have to take each game as it comes”

"The fans know what an effort we are putting in and it’s hard after everything we achieved last year, but the most important is that we keep in there till the very end”.

“Winning was important regardless of who scored, but we are pleased for Leo that he’s back on target”.

"All I look to do is the best for the team and give everything I can so that things work out well”.

Xavi:

"I’d not scored a goal from a free kick this season, so I’m happy both for myself and the team”.

"It’s a big step, but not decisive –there are still 9 points to play for”

"There was a lot at stake and I wanted to be there to help. We are just a step away from the title and it’s not such a serious injury – I’ll be okay for the World Cup”.

"Everybody expected us to slip up here, but the team came back strong and by half time we had almost got the points tied up”.

"This team is committed to the cause and we want to win this title”.
