Gap between the big two made clear

Barca showed that the model Guardiola has championed could overcome Madrid, winning where no other team has even managed as much as a draw this season.

The boss has insisted: “I want the world to see the best Barca again” and the game against Madrid made it quite clear that Barca are still way ahead of Madrid, who’ve lost both games this season and not scored a single goal.Barca put an end to Madrid’s 100% home league record and also ensured that for the first time since 24th February 2008 against Getafe, Madrid failed to score at home.

Valdés, teh league’s best

Valdes again showed why he’s considered the best keeper in the Spanish league and now leads the keepers’ table with just 19 goals conceded in 31 games. Against Madrid he stopped any hopes of a home team comeback with a series of great saves - in stark contrast to Iker Casillas who has now let in 11 goals in the last two seasons against Barca and become the keeper Messi has scored most goals against.

Messi again

Messi has stretched his lead at the top of the goalscorers table over Higuain and with 27 he is on course for the Golden Boot award too. With 81 goals in six seasons with Barca, he has now passed Rexach in the all time league scorers list at the club.
