Valdés versus Casillas

Edgar Fornós

FC Barcelona against Real Madrid brings together the best two goalkeepers in the league together as Víctor Valdés and Iker Casillas square up in the Santiago Bernabéu.

The clásico will pit the top two teams in the Spanish league together and also the top custodians as the Blaugrana stopper has let in just 19 goals this term while Los Merengues’ number one has conceded 26.

Team success

2010-03-30_ENTRENO_04.JPGEvery player in the Barça side has to be credited with the team enjoying another highly successful season, but the strength of the defence has been outstanding once again and has allowed the forwards the time they need to dazzle opponents and score so many goals. At the back of the defence stands the best keeper in the top flight in Valdés as he has continued to marshal his players and make a number of superb saves.

Clean sheets

2009-10-17_PARTIDO_WEB_05.JPGAs well as conceding so few goals, Valdés has also played no less than 15 matches and not let a single one in. His clean sheet record is better than ever and is one of the key reasons why Barça have dropped so few points in la Primera.

Zamora award

Valdés has won the Zamora Trophy for being the best keeper in Spanish football on two occasions. After lifting the award in 2004/05 he then repeated the feat by being named number one in the 2007/08 campaign.
Valdés versus Casillas
Valdés 6-5 Casillas
In the clásico Valdés has the upper hand on Casillas as he has been on the winning side on six occasions while the Madrid keeper has been victorious five times. Valdés has also conceded fewer goals in the games with only 18 while Casillas has let in 25 against Barça.
