First half stats

Sandra Sarmiento

Barca’s stats in the first half of the season are almost as impressive as their football has been, having scored 49 goals in taking their 49 points, conceding just 10 goals.

In the more than 110 year history of the club, Barca have never before gone unbeaten in the first half of the season and a look at all their stats over the first 19 games reflects the extraordinary story of these last five months or so.

15 victories

2009-09-19_SEGUNDA_03.JPGSporting, Getafe, Atlètico Madrid, Racing de Santander, Malaga, Almeria, Zaragoza, Mallorca, Madrid, Deportivo, Espanyol, Jerez, Tenerife, Seville and Valladolid. Those are the 15 teams Barca have beaten in the first half of the season. Of the top six teams, only Valencia have been able to resist Barca ‘s football and manage a draw. This time last year the team had actually won one more game.

4 draws

2009-10-17_PARTIDO_WEB_37.JPGBarca have only dropped 8 points – six of those on the road. At Mestalla, Unai Emery’s team came up against a brilliant Valdes and Barca themselves lacked sharpness in the final metres. In Pamplona, an own goal from Pique gave Osasuna an injury time equaliser, whilst a late strike from Toquero saved a point for Bilbao at the San Mames, Villarreal were the only team to avoid defeat at the Nou Camp, when they drew 1-1 in early January.

49 points, 49 goals

2010-01-16_FCB_-_SEVILLA_005.jpgLast year, Barca took 50 points in the first half of the season and scored 59 goals and although the team have scored 10 goals less, they have gone unbeaten. Messi is this season’s leading scorer with 15 goals, Ibra is on 11 and Pedro has scored 5.

10 goals conceded

The goals against stat is one of the most spectacular with Valdes having been beaten 10 times – 1 goal against for every 5 scored. In 11 of the 19 games, Valdes has been unbeaten with 6 of the goals conceded at the Camp Nou.
First half stats
6 wins on the run
It was a brilliant start to the campaign with Barca winning their first 6 games starting with a win in Gijon and not coming to a halt till the game in Valencia in the middle of October. Last season the team won the first 9 games.
