Abidal needs three more weeks

Abidal is recovering well from a meniscus injury in his right knee, but a decision has been made for a conservative approach to be adopted, and he will therefore continue therapy for another three weeks.

The left back first noticed he had problems in training last Thursday. He was diagnosed has having a cyst in the outer meniscus of his right knee, and will now be put through three more weeks of treatment. If the player does not respond after that period, the doctors will resort to arthroscopy.

Five games out

So Éric Abidal will miss the League games with Valladolid, Recreativo Huelva and Getafe, the Cup game with Benidorm and most probably the Champions League trip to Lisbon too.

Abidal has already sat out two games, in the league against Malaga and the European encounter with Basel.
