Piqué out for ten days to a fortnight

Scans on the player this morning have confirmed a small tear in his left thigh muscle which will keep him sidelined for ten days to a fortnight. Club doctors believe he will be able to turn out for the Spanish national team.

Gerard Piqué has spent this Monday morning at the club’s medical services. Tests confirmed he has a small tear in his left thigh muscle. Ricard Pruna, the Barça first team doctor, told www.fcbarcelona.cat that it is a minor injury: “It shouldn’t pose too many problems and we just need to keep an eye on it for ten or twelve days”.

In touch with the Spanish Federation

Next steps

Club doctors have set out what Piqué needs to do to recover as swiftly as possible. “We’re going to have to stick to those ten or twelve days, especially because he’s been carrying a tendon problem in the same leg for the whole season,” said Pruna. “Over the next few days he should do physiotherapy, muscle strengthening work and stretching exercises.”

Called up for national team

As the injury isn’t major, Piqué has been called up by Vicente Del Bosque for the Spanish national squad. Ricard Pruna is optimistic about the Catalan player being ready: “If he sticks to the timetable then he has a good chance of being in South Africa”.
