Muniesa has bittersweet debut

Marc Muniesa will remember his FC Barcelona first team debut for two very differing reasons as his night began with a huge cheer as he entered the game and ended with a red card and a long walk to the changing rooms.

The 17-year-old was put on in the 50th minute of the game against Osasuna on Saturday evening wearing the number 46 to replace Sylvinho and saw one of his dreams come true. After recovering from a long-term injury, the youngster was delighted to have been given a chance at the highest level when he became the second youngest player to ever make his debut for the Blaugrana.

Going on

"He has had a serious injury and I wanted to reward him," Pep Guardiola told reporters after the game. Muniesa himself was just relishing being part of the squad and taking in what life is like with the first team before being given his chance. "It was spectacular," the defender said. "I was really hoping that I would be able to go on when I was watching in the first half."

Eto’o compliments

Samuel Eto'o was full of praise for Muniesa as he stated. "He does not seem to have the age that he does. I am sure that next season he will be given a lot more time."

Red card

"It should have been a yellow at the most," Eto'o said. "But what is important is that he made his debut with the best team in the world and that is what he should remember most."

Guardiola’s feelings

After the sending off, Guardiola consoled Muniesa as he made his way off the pitch and told the media: "I feel sorry for Marc because of red card. But he is well and is feeling good."

Great support

The supporters showed their appreciation for the starlet with a show of handkerchiefs for ten minutes and he was grateful to them. "I want to thank the fans and hope to play again soon. I also want to thank my team-mates who have helped me."
