Klinsmann has never beaten Guardiola

Jesús Carrillo

Current Barça and Bayern Munich managers Guardiola and Klinsmann met on four occasions as players in the 90’s with 2 wins for Guardiola and 2 draws.

The two players met in the UEFA Cup, the Champions League and in the final phase of the World Cup. Now they will meet on opposite sides in the Champions League as team managers.

In the return leg, both players played and Barça won 0-1.

World Cup in Chicago

In the summer of 1994, Germany and Spain clashed in Chicago in the USA World Cup. The match ended in a 1-1 draw with Klinsmann scoring the goal for Germany.

Barça and Bayern Munich top scorers
It’s interesting to note that the teams managed by Guardiola and Klinsmann are the highest scorers in the Champions League this season, with 24 goals apiece in the 8 matches.

In the group stage, Barça scored 18 goals compared to 12 from Bayern. In the first knockout round, Klinsmann’s players eliminated Sporting 12-1 on aggregate while Barça disposed of Olympique Lyon 6-3. However, Bayern have conceded only 5 goals compared with Barça’s tally of 11. These figures exclude the preliminary phase as Bayern entered the group stage directly.
