Barça and Atlético Madrid have gone head-to-head 40 times in the Spanish Cup in 21 ties. At present Barça are ahead with 11 overall wins.


FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid are not exactly unknown quantities for each other, as in addition to 140 League clashes they have also disputed 40 King’s Cup matches. Of those 40 games Barça have won 17, there have been 8 draws and 15 wins for the Madrid outfit.

The two teams have faced off in 21 Cup ties including two finals which ended in a victory apiece and a replay. Out of those 21 ties, Barça have won 11.

Most recent Barça win

The last time Barça won against Atlético Madrid was in the quarterfinals in 1996/97. The Catalans got a two all draw in the first leg at Vicente Calderón, before making an amazing recovery in the second leg from three nil down to win 5-4 with a Ronaldo hat-trick and two other goals from Figo and Pizzi.

QM3D1607.jpgClashes between the two sides in the Cup have always been marked by goals and good football. Between them they have found the net 143 times in those 40 games (81 for Barça and 62 for Madrid) which makes an average of 3 ½ goals per match. Barça have also handed out some thrashings, most notably in 1952/53 and 1956/57 at Camp Nou when they ran out winners 8-1 on both occasions.

Barça win first clash
The first Cup clash between FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid dates back to the 1924/25 season. After winning at home (3-2) and losing away (2-1) Barça needed a replay to get through the tie and reach the final.
