Eto'o: “We have to work hard”

Sergi Nogueras / Anna Segura

Speaking just after arriving in Scotland, Samuel Eto'o told reporters that the players would have to work hard to achieve success next season. However, he also expressed his excitement at the challenges ahead.

Samuel Eto'o is keen to get the pre-season under way and is determined that the team will not repeat the mistakes of last season: “The experience of last season tells us what we mustn’t do. It’s all about not repeating what we did wrong and doing what was good”.

“Work hard to win titles”

Samuel Eto'o admitted that this season will be even harder than last season: “We have to work hard to win a title. Our opponents will want to do important things and win on any ground and so it’ll be difficult. I’m in the best team in the world and with the best players”.

New signings

Samuel Eto'o also spoke about the four new signings and stressed the quality of the entire team and not just the forward line: “We have a strong group, with new players that will definitely improve the squad”. He also assured reporters that the new players are settling in fast: “Henry is adapting very well as are the other new team-mates. And the sooner they do that, the better it will be for the team”.

Responsibility in the group

But we’re also responsible adults. We all know what we must do and especially if we’re in one of the best teams in the world. It’s not just about being a great player, it’s also the way you are - and that’s why they’ve brought us here”.

Interest from Milan

Eto'o is flattered by the interest shown from Milan to sign him but once again repeated that he’s going nowhere: “I already said last season that I didn’t want to leave because I’m happy in Barcelona and in Catalonia. It’s just speculation. The truth is that I still have a contract and I haven’t thought about leaving. I’ve always wanted to stay with Barça and do a good job”.

Scottish football

The last time Eto'o played in Scotland was in the 2004-05 season when Barça beat Glasgow Celtic 3-1 in the group stage of the Champions League. He revealed that this week’s two friendlies will be very different: “They won’t be as important as that day. Then it was the Champions League. Although Barça should always go out to win, the expectation is not the same”.
