“We have lots of options to play in the final”

David Puig

The defeat in the Riazor has not taken away a grain of optimism from Sylvinho with regard to Tuesday’s decisive game at Old Trafford. The winger has already changed his ideas and assures that Barça have a great chance to be in Moscow.

Sylvinho admitted during the press conference after training this morning that the team isn’t doing too well in the la Liga but can put on another very different face this Tuesday at Old Trafford. The Brazilian winger is optimistic and thinks they can play a good game at Manchester’s ground and play in the Moscow final: “I understand the people have doubts after the last few league games but in the Champions it’s different. The great game against Manchester last Wednesday didn’t surprise me at all. We know that in a two-leg game we can overcome any team. We did it on Wednesday in the Camp Nou, and I hope we can achieve it on Tuesday at Old Trafford. I think we have a good chance of reaching the final in Moscow”

Change of plan

He understands the doubts created by the team’s recent performances in la Liga but cries out to the pride of those members of FC Barcelona to overcome the adversities: “We are Barça. In recent seasons we have won two leagues, a Champions League, played in a mini World Cup of clubs and have been at the top of the continents’ clubs. We are perfectly capable of qualifying for the final and for that reason we will fight to the end on Tuesday.

Second place in danger

Barça is in third place in la Liga with four games remaining in the championship. Sylvinho doesn’t hide the fact that direct access to the Champions League is in danger and for this reason they have to face the upcoming games with a thirst for victory: “To say that second place is not in danger would be a lie. We have to go all out in all the remaining games. If we can’t win la Liga, we have to fight for second place. We are FC Barcelona and we have to finish the season with dignity and pride and go out and win all the games”.

Two games at Old Trafford
During his time at Arsenal in the seasons 99/00 and 00/01, Sylvinho played twice at Old Trafford, with the results ending in a defeat and a draw. The third has to be the decider and the Brazilian hopes to achieve his first win at Manchester United’s ground, even though a one, or more, all draw would be enough to qualify for the final in Moscow.
