Barca Facebook reaches 1.5 million

The FC Barcelona Facebook page has reached over one and a half million fans making Barca the most popular top class team on this social networking site.

There has been a big increase in the number of fans on the Barca page during March ( http://www.facebook.com/fcbarcelona ). There are now over one and a half million fans.

500,000 fans in three months

The page reached the one million mark in December 2009, coinciding with Barca’s success in the World Club Cup. It has taken just three months to increase this number by 50%. This last week has witnessed the biggest surge with 35,509 fans joining the page.

Barcelona heads ranking

Logically, the city of Barcelona has the most fans with 116,834 people signed up for the Barca Facebook page. Next comes Madrid, with 97,447 and, perhaps surprisingly, third Istanbul with 64,795. In fact, Facebook has a lot of followers in Turkey.

The breakdown by countries gives us Spain, with 239,348, Turkey with 137,999 and the USA in third place with 106,409 fans. 75% of the users are male and 42% are aged between 18 and 24.

FC Barcelona has more fans signed up for its page than any other top class football team. In second place is Real Madrid (1,275,225) and third Liverpool (1,249,068). Some way further behind come Chelsea (623,457) and Arsenal (679,179).
