Norman Foster + Partners


Norman Foster is a British architect who was born in Manchester on June 1, 1935. He studied architecture at the University of Manchester and went on to win the Henry Fellowship to the Yale School of Architecture.

After forming an architectural practice called Team 4, he began a long collaboration with American Richard Buckminster Fuller. Foster changed the name of company to Foster and Partners and it still operates under that name today, employing a staff of around 500 with offices in London, Berlin and Singapore.

Foster has won many awards for his work, including the prestigious Prizker Architecture Prize in 1999 as well as being given the Stirling prizeon two occasions. In 1990 he was knighted and was granted the Order of Merit in 1997. Two years later he was made a life peer as Lord Foster of Thames Bank OM, of Reddish in the County of Greater Manchester.
