Fran Vázquez was named MVP at the Copa del Rey final in Bilbao tonight in recognition of his inside play during the final which proved a vital part of Barca’s win.


The Galician power forward has yet another award after winning his first ever MVP in a King’s Cup Final. He also had stats of 12 points, 4,3 reboundsts and a 15 point valuation average for the competition.

4 smashes and an alley-hoop

2010-02-21_REGAL_FCB_-_REAL_MADRID_030.jpgIn the final itself, Fran Vázquez scored 14 points, scoring all 5 from 5 of his two pointer throws - four of which were smashes, the most spectacular of which was an alley-hoop after a fantastic pass from Sada.

18 point valuation

As well as his points( Fran also scored 4 from 6 free throws), Vázquez also racked up 4 blocks and 2 recoveries to give him an 18 point valuation – the highest of the final.

This is the third time Fran Vazquez has won a Kings Cup title after taking it in 2007 with Winterthur FC Barcelona and in 2005 with Unicaja de Mŕlaga. He has also won an ACB league title (2009) and an ACB Super Cup(2010).

In the footsteps of Gasol, Bodiroga and Trias
Fran Vázquez is the fourth Barca player to win the MVP award in the final of a Kings Cup, following on from Pau Gasol (Malaga '01), Dejan Bodiroga (Valencia '03) and Jordi Trias (Malaga '07).
