Change of format
Unlike last season, when the tournament involved a Final Four in Sant Cugat, this season the Copa Catalunya went back to the old system of semi finals on the court of the lower category team and the final somewhere neutral.

Another win in the Copa Catalunya

Barça Alusport retained the Copa Catalunya. This was the third consecutive time that the cup had ended up in the Museum trophy cabinet. Marc Carmona’s side beat Marfil Santa Coloma in the grand final by a single goal.

Javi Rodríguez lifted the trophy for the third time in a row to start the season in the best possible way. Barça had to work hard in the final on September 11 in Balaguer against a Marfil side that is never easy to beat (2-1). Barça took it with two goals from summer signing Wilde, who revealed his predator instinct to the fans.

Semi final in Andorra

Two days before the final, FC Barcelona won their semi final against strong Second Division outfit, BP Andorra, who were soundly beaten on the day (2-7). Carmona’s side made their superiority known from the first minutes and certified qualification with goals from Jordi Torras, Wilde, Chico, Fernandão (3) and Saad.

Their big Catalan rival, Marfil Santa Coloma, now under coach Andreu Plaza, beat l’Hospitalet in the other semi final and were hence the final obstacle. It was an intense, tough and very exciting final.

Wilde decides the final

The two teams had also met recently in a friendly triangular in Manresa, where Barça had won 4-2. It would be harder this time and the size of the court in Balaguer made things awkward. But the players were fresh, and that helped.

Wilde’s talent tends to emerge when it matters. The Brazilian got the first goal, but Marfil quickly replied from a free kick. Then Wilde, in the second half, decided affairs after a great play from Saad. 2-1 and for one more season, Barça was Catalan champion.
