Saving grace

Barça Senseit managed to stave off relegation, but did not find it easy. An inconsistent start to the campaign left the Blaugrana in the relegation places, but they were able to edge clear.

The futsal outfit struggled to find results and faced a battle to stay in their division as the end of the season approached. They survived, but the record of seven wins, seven draws and 16 defeats does not make great reading.

Poor start

Marc Carmona's side began the División de Honor campaign badly as they were beaten at home by Martorell. The first four games also saw the Blaugrana fail to score and it was not until a victory over Carnicer Torrejón that the first points of the season were earned. That victory was followed by a draw against Lobelle and then another win at home to Celta.

After that encouraging run, the poor form set in and in their next seven matches, the team managed to earn just three more points thanks to draws agains Caja Segovia, Gestesa and Azkar Lugo.

Remaining hopeful

The second half of the season began with an optimistic air, but began like the first with a defeat against Martorell. Another three games without registering a goal followed, before a 2-2 draw with Pozo Murcia arrived in the first game of the Copa de España. Even though the team were then beaten by Caja Segovia and Carnier in their next games saw them knocked out, the draw against Murcia gave the team some hope.

A little over a month later Barça Senseit played Pozo Murcia, who ended up as league champions, and won 4-2 to really lift spirits within the camp.

Before there was time to think though, Barça were hammered 10-1 by Polaris World Cartagena in the Palau Blaugrana. It was a hefty blow, but the team were used to having to fight back by now and they earned another draw with Segocia and then defeated Playas de Castellón at home in their next two games. Winning against Boomerang Interviú was too much to ask, but in the final three games of the season one win was enough to secure them their place in the top division for another season.

Knock-on effect

The key match came against Gestesa Guadalajara when the Blaugrana could not afford to lose and the Catalan side ran riot as they scored ten and conceded three and left them four points above the drop zone. The following game saw Barça lose in Navarra, but the previous victory had proven to be enough to mean that none of the team below Carmona's side could catch them. With the pressure lifted, Barça were able to relax in their final game of the season against Lugo at home.

Cup disappointment

With survival in the bag, Barça still had the chance to win a trophy; the Copa Catalunya. After hammering Blanes, from the Primera Nacional division, 11-1, Barça reached teh final where they were paired with Martorell. The team, coached by Sito Rivera, were also placing all their hopes on winning the cup after seeing their sponsor withdraw and leave the club with financial problems. For that reason, they came out strongly and fought back from two goals down to beat Barça Senseit.
