The 'Basketball without Borders' team of NBA players visited XICS Santa Coloma this Saturday where they played educational games and ran a sports clinic for beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries of the FC Barcelona Foundation’s Santa Coloma de Gramenet XICS centre had
an unforgettable morning this Saturday. NBA players Jason Terry, Marcus Camby, Serge Ibaka and
Vladimir Radmanovic visited the centre to share some time with seventy XICS beneficiaries and
convey the positive values of sport.
Educational games in the classroom
The first part of the visit took place in the classroom in the Els Pins
Civic Centre in the town. There local youngsters and the NBA players designed a large mural with
the slogan 'Our hands will change the world' and played several educational games donated by NBA
Cares. "They've had a great time, all these young people got to see us in person and we made sure
they had fun," said Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks.
Clinic in the sports centre
Things then moved on to the nearby neighbourhood sports centre where a
sports clinic was held. In addition to beneficiaries of the Foundation’s XICS, some sixty
young people from various basketball clubs in Santa Coloma took part. "Activities like this one
show how you can work on social integration through sport and young people’s sense of
belonging, in this case belonging to XICS," commented Tania Plaza, director of the Santa Coloma
centre.
The morning ended with a brief display of dunks by the NBA superstars and a moving
‘family photo’ on the court.
