The winners of the ‘Sweep Away Hunger’ sweepstake held on occasion of the Copa del Rey final enjoyed a meal on Thursday in the company of former FC Barcelona players at La Masia. The event marked the end of a hugely successful campaign.
The ‘Sweep Away Hunger’ project has more than 100,000 winners. They are people living
below the poverty threshold in Catalonia that have received the more than 200,000 kilos of food
collected via organisations associated to the Fundació Banc dels Aliments.
Sweepstake winners
This campaign, instigated by the FC Barcelona Foundation, has other winners: the
people who got the score of the Copa del Rey final right, with entries associated to each donation.
Of the people that donated at least a kilo of food, ten predicted that the game would end 1-0 to
Real Madrid, and as a result they were invited on Thursday to visit the Camp Nou Experience and
have supper in La Masia with a group of former FC Barcelona stars.
Fellowship meal
The winners included five youngsters belonging to disabled associations in
Barcelona and also a USAP fan, Jean Pierre, who donated his food on the day of the rugby match at
the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium. All of these were able to enjoy the company of Toño De la Cruz,
Josep Moratalla and Enric Masip over dinner, with whom they were able to chat about their past
experiences at the club, and naturally enough, the latest first team news.
From Perpignan to Barcelona
Jean Pierre Guerenneur, the winner who came all the way down from Perpignan to enjoy this
prize, the food collection campaign “is an excellent initiative from a great club like Barça,
which always does nice things both on the field and for charity.” Former Barça star Toño de
la Cruz said that “collaborating with a cause like this is priceless and everybody should be
obliged to help out”.
