Unescocat award for the Foundation

On Monday, the Fundació FC Barcelona received the International Unescocat
The UNESCO centre in Catalonia, Unescocat, presented the Fundació FC Barcelona with the II Premi
Internacional Unescocat in recognition, according to its report, “of its adhesion to the
United Nations Millennium Development Goals and its pioneering alliances with international
organisations like Unicef, UNESCO and ACNUR, in the fight against extreme poverty and sickness
affecting the most vulnerable members of society, promoting universal education and gender
equality, fighting racism and using sport to defend the values of civilian duty, freedom and
democracy, which have always been values that FC Barcelona has exemplified.
"Projecting Barça’s values"
The award was presented at a gala held at the Centre UNESCO de
Catalunya, in Barcelona, and was collected by Ramon Pont, vice president of the Foundation and a
Club director. In his acceptance speech, Pont spoke about “the values that through the
Foundation we have to promote on a worldwide level in a way people can understand.”.
The ceremony was also attended by other patrons: Lola Bou, Ramon Canela, Sergi González,
Josep Maldonado, Marta R. de Llauder, Antonio Tombas and Ramon Palou, as well as the director
general of the Foundation Josep Cortada. The jury for this award was constituted by representatives
of Catalan entities in the fields of education, science, culture and communication.
These awards were created in 2009 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Centre UNESCO
de Catalunya, and are awarded Catalan people or entities that have made a decisive contribution to
the promotion of UNESCO’s values and principles, and to the programmes associated to the
Centre UNESCO de Catalunya.
