First excursion for XICS El Carmel
www.fcbarcelona.cat
Twenty beneficiaries of XICS El Carmel went skating today at the FC Barcelona ice rink in the first trip organised by the centre, where classes started some weeks ago. The children were aged between 10 and 15 years.
Carolina Ruiz-Tagle, director of the XICS said that “these excursions are not just about
sport, they about educating on values, learning how to behave, and creating group bonding. It was
the first outing and everybody has responded well”. One of the children, 12 year old Jordi,
said that at the XICS “the homework, sport and teachers all help me … coming here to
skate at the Camp Nou was exciting, I had a good time”.
Integral support for El Carmel
The XICS El Carmel and Area is based at the IES Ferran Tallada in
Barcelona, and will be officially inaugurated in spring 2011, after the project was formalized in
April of last year, although classes have already started. The centre will gradually add new users
up to a total of fifty, where they will receive school support, psychosocial aid, access to leisure
though sport and family therapy in the socially underprivileged district of El Carmel in Barcelona.
