Mexico will have 2 new XICS centres
www.fcbarcelona.cat
They will be in ‘El Salto’ and ‘Tonalá, towns in the state of Jalisco. Both are the fruit of a collaboration of the FC Barcelona Foundation with the Rafa Marquez Foundation - ‘Football and Heart’.
The agreement between these 2 organisations was confirmed in October 2007 and the fruits are
clearly visible.
The XICS centre in ‘El Salto’, in the west of the state, is in the final stages
of construction and now has a selection of roughly 200 children of between 4 and 15 years of age,
who will be the beneficiaries. This selection was made in March by a team of social workers from
the zone designated by both organisations.
This centre will be equipped with several classrooms where extra courses, workshops and
computer classes will be given. Apart from this, thanks to having its own dining facilities,
nutricional support can also be given to the children registered.
Not one, but two XICS centres
In the beginning the understanding was to
provide for the creation of a XICS centre in ‘El Salto’, but the solid co-ordination of
the two foundations has made possible the creation of a second centre in another town in need,
‘Tonalá’, also situated in the central area of Jalisco. The work on this centre began
in the first week of April.
The beneficiaries of the two centres will be the boys and girls from the area of a high
vulnerability, from very poor families, who in general, have had to migrate within the country.
XICS activities will be complemented by the implementation of the NED (Nutrition, education
and sport) programme by the Rafa Marquez Foundation, aimed at improving health, education and
leisure through sport among the Mexican children of few resources
