FC Barcelona Borges coach Xavi Pascual and the Club have reached an agreement to extend his contract for a further two seasons until the end of the 2012/13 campaign. Pascual’s contract was due to finish at the end of this season.
Official presentation on Thursday
At 17.30 on Thursday, BarcaTV will have live coverage of the official presentation of
Pascual’s new deal, with Eduard Coll, Board member responsible for the Handball section and
the technical secretary Enric Masip accompanying the coach.
The announcement was made by the Board spokesperson Toni Freixa, following the Board meeting on
Wednesday evening.
Club man
Xavi Pascual, who had been a player with the team, returned to the Club
as goalkeeping coach in the 2005/06 season, combining that job with the role of co-ordinator of the
section’s academy. In the 2008/09 season he became assistant coach, stepping up to his
current position when Manolo Cardenas was dismissed on February 9th 2009.
Pascual made his debut as coach the day after, when Barça Borges played Keymare Almeria at
the Palau Blaugrana. Since then he has been in charge for 122 games, winning 103, drawing 5 and
losing just 14 games.
Six titles won
Under his stewardship, FC Barcelona Borges have won 2 Spanish Cups, 1 ASOBAL Cup, 1
Spanish Super Cup and 2 Lligues dels Pirineus, as well as ending last season as runners up in
Europe. The team currently lead the ASOBAL with a 4 point lead with 3 games left to play, whilst in
the Champions League they are through to the Final Four in Cologne, where they will play the German
team Rhein Neckar.
