Xavi: “Cesc would triumph at Barça”

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The midfielder would be delighted if Cesc Fàbregas were to join him at FC Barcelona, saying he has the club’s DNA in his body.

They are very similar footballers, they play together for Spain and would love to do the same for Barça. Xavi and Cesc. The Arsenal star has been saying for some time that he would love to play for FC Barcelona one day and Xavi would welcome him with open arms. “I’d love him to come; I’ve already told him that. He is a footballer with Barça DNA. I have doubt that Cesc would triumph at Barça”.

Big demands

Xavi has won five Ligas, two Champions Leagues, a Copa del Rey and a Clubs World Cup with Barça. “I am having a great time, but I can’t stop. The demands are big, everyone wants to come to Barça and the team is getting better every year. You have to play ten out of ten, you have to play perectly”.

World recognition

fcb-getafe_x34x.JPGXavi is now one of the best players on the planet, but it was not always so certain that there would be such a happy ending. “When I joined the first team things were difficult. They compared me with Guardiola, the team wasn’t doing well and it didn’t look like we were good enough for the Camp Nou … But I have a strong mind, I always knew I could be a success and I gradually started playing a bigger role. Now I’m recognised all over the world, and that’s fantastic”, said Xavi.

On Messi and Mourinho

2010-03-17_PARTIDO_26.JPGAsked about Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo, Xavi made it clear that “I have no doubt that Messi is better. Cristiano is a fantastic footballer, but Leo’s better. He is undoubtedly the number one”. As for Mourinho at Madrid, Xavi said “I wish him the best. I respect him a lot. I know how much character he has and for me he’s a great person”.

Barça mark on national side

The Pep Guardiola style is synonymous with success. So much so that it seems to have been imported into the national team’s plans. That is no surprise, for seven of Vicente del Bosque’s squad hail from FC Barcelona. “We play technical football and we have the best players in the world to do that with. Cruyff said that you could defend with the ball and he’s right. Spain’s philosophy os the same as Barça’s”.

Schuster the reference
Xavi claims he learned his football from watching the legendary German. “It was fantastic to see him play, the way he changed the pace, scored and led the team.” He added that “Pep was the first player to catch my eye when I came to Barça”.
