The FC Barcelona Foundation has organised a charitable sports training programme in the town of Richard Toll in Senegal.
The event, which was held between 5th and 10 June, was coordinated by former Barça player Julio
Alberto, together with the FC Barcelona Foundation, local supporters of the Foundation’s XICS
Project in Senegal, the Town Council of Richard Toll and the Association Sénégalaise pour le
Bien-être Familial.
The XICS Project
The aim of the event was to promote the social and
charitable activities of the Foundation in Richard Toll, a town situated in the region of
Saint-Louis in the north of Senegal next to the border with Mauritania. This is the starting point
of the
Foundation’s XICS Project
for a charitable training and sports centre in the town.
The inauguration was attended by a number of local dignitaries, including the mayor of
Richard Toll, the Regional Prefect, the Departmental Inspector of Education and religious and
political representatives of the town.
The experience of Julio Alberto
The training sessions for instructors, educationalists,
sports coaches and primary school teachers were led by Julio Alberto. The participants learned to
manage and coordinate groups of children in leisure and sporting activities. Among the subjects
covered were organisation, planning, and design of socio-educative activities, the identification
of children who will benefit from the project, and the importance and strength of sport as an
educational tool.
In the afternoons, leisure and sports activities were
organised for the 150 children taking part under the slogan “The Values of Sport”. The
drawings, drama and songs prepared by the children included many references to respect for others,
honesty, companionship and justice.
