FC Barcelona assistant head coach Johan Neeskens has organised, through his foundation Stichting de Nees, an initiative that will see eight Dutch cyclists ride from Hoogland in Holland to the Camp Nou.
Stichting de Nees (the Nees Association) is the charity foundation set up by the former Barça and
Netherlands player and his wide Marlis. Since May 2001, the organisation has been working on
projects to help children with special needs, because of illness or physical or mental
disabilities, to be given a better life.
Through this foundation the Barça coach has helped improve the lives of thousands of
different people. By giving financial support to many organisations and institutions that have vast
experience in helping carry out activities with groups that aim to contribute towards helping and
supporting those with special needs.
From Holland to Camp Nou
To raise more funds for these activities, a group of eight cyclists that are friends of the
Stichting de Nees have organised the "Ride for de Nees2007" (Ride for de Nees). This initiative
counts on the support of the Fundación FC Barcelona and will see them start off in Hoogland under
the orders of Neeskens, who will be at the starting line to fire the pistol. The eight will then
travel 1650 kilometres to Camp Nou, where they will be met by Neeskens.
At the finish line, Neeskens will be waiting to welcome them to the stadium as well as to
help collect monies from the various sponsors that have pledged their support for his worthwhile
cause.
