Urdangarín and Cambra, new Fundació FC Barcelona board members
The Duke of Palma and former handball star, Iñaki Undargarín, and the secretary and spokesperson of the Club’s Board of Directors, Xavier Cambra, were named on Monday as new members of the Foundation’s Board.
The Camp Nou Presidential Suite was the venue this Monday for an extraordinary Fundació FC
Barcelona board meeting. The meeting accepted the nominations of two new members. The first is the
Duke of Palma and former member of Barça’s handball team, Iñaki Undargarín, and the other is
the secretary and spokesperson of the Club’s Board of Directors, Xavier Cambra.
A life dedicated to Barça
Joan Laporta said he was delighted to welcome Iñaki Urdangarín to the Foundation, saying "he
was a highly successful sportsman at the club, winning six European Cups. He formed part of a
golden generation and is a club hero." But apart from what he has achieved through sport, the Barça
president also admires Urdangarín for his experience “of matters of social and corporate
responsibility ".
The Duke of Palma said "becoming a patron of the Foundation means so many things. It means I
can be linked to the club once again, after family and professional matters have disconnected me
somewhat. It also means giving back to sport what sport has given me. I am very grateful in that
respect". The former handball star said that his sport and Barça "have been my life and the time
has come to work on projects like those promoted by the Foundation". For him, these projects will
involve "learning about and contributing to ideas and concerns that need to be shared by all of the
members of the Foundation’s Board".
